Associates Professional Staff
Lynn M. Wegner, M.D., F.A.A.P. Dr. Wegner is a developmental / behavioral
pediatrician. She received her bachelor's degree from Mount Holyoke College. Dr. Wegner
trained at Oklahoma Children's Memorial Hospital, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and North
Carolina Memorial Hospital, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is certified
by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
She practiced general pediatrics prior to her specialty training in developmental /
behavioral pediatrics with Dr. Mel Levine, Center for Development and Learning, University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After her fellowship, she remained on the faculty of the
Center for Development and Learning and the Department of Pediatrics at the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She currently holds adjunct faculty
positions at UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University Medical Center.
Mary Ann B. Kimball, LCSW. Ms. Kimball is a clinical social worker with over
twenty years experience in the field of learning and attention disorders in children and
adults. She earned her bachelor's degree at Elon College and her Master of Social Work
degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ms. Kimball has research
experience at the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Center at UNC. She gained clinical
experience during eleven years at the Center for Development and Learning at UNC. She is
an adjunct assistant professor at the UNC School of Social Work and has a particular
interest in family issues and adults with learning and attention problems.
Margot B. Stein, Ph.D. Dr. Stein is a pediatric psychologist with over fifteen
years experience working with children and adolescents. She received her bachelor's degree
from Smith College and a Ph.D. in history from Harvard University. After obtaining a
doctoral degree at Duke University in School Psychology, she completed a two-year
postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology at the Center for Development and
Learning the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. For the last ten years, she was
on the faculty at the CDL and the Department of Psychiatry at UNC-CH. She currently holds
an adjunct faculty position in the Department of Psychiatry at UNC-CH.
Jocelyn D. Challas, M.S., CCC-SLP. Ms. Challas is a speech
and language pathologist specializing in work with children and
adolescents who demonstrate impairments in language and social
communication. She received her bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt
University and her master's degree in communication disorders
from the University of Texas at Dallas Callier Center for Communication
Disorders. Ms. Challas has researched the cognitive-communicative
deficits commonly seen in pediatric head injury at the Brain Research
and Treatment Center in Dallas, TX. Her findings have been presented
at the American SpeechLanguage-Hearing Association annual convention
and published in Advances in Speech-Language Pathology.
Elaine L. Goolsby, LCSW. Ms. Goolsby holds an undergraduate degree from Duke
University and Master of Social Work degree from the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill. She has over thirty years experience working with families of children with
a variety of developmental disabilities at the Center for Developmental and Learning at
UNC-CH (formerly DDDL). She served for many years as an instructor for the UNC School of
Social Work. Ms. Goolsby has also worked in private practice doing therapy, parent groups,
and a parent call-in hour.
Janice C. Young, M.A. Ms. Young is an educational diagnostician with fifteen
years experience in assessing the educational achievement and processing abilities of
both normally achieving students and those individuals with learning differences. She
received her bachelor's degree in special education from Indiana University and a
master's degree in learning disabilities studies from Northwestern University, Evanston,
Illinois. Ms. Young's professional background includes additional training in autism and
related behavioral disorders.
