Our Philosophy

Learning and Development Associates (LADA) is a group of professionals from medicine, psychology, education, social work and speech-language pathology concerned about development and learning patterns across the lifespan. The Adult LD-ADD Program at LADA focuses on the achievement of skills necessary to become a productive adult. We offer evaluation and treatment services to meet the needs of those struggling with education beyond high school, job performance difficulties, relationship issues and daily life challenges, such as organization and time management.

The evaluation of an adult with attention or learning difficulties may include educational testing, a medical evaluation, psychological testing, emotional assessment and a family assessment. Each evaluation, however, is planned individually with specific referral questions in mind. The evaluation will draw heavily on school and developmental history and will assess current daily functioning ability. A careful review is given to the problems an individual is encountering on a daily basis and how those problems may interfere with personal, educational and career goals.

Adults who are evaluated and treated can be expected to provide a thorough history of school experiences, peer relationships, emotional adjustment, job history and any medical problems. Prior testing information, report cards, etc., are helpful to the evaluation team. Other standardized measures may be used to determine if criteria are met for Attention Deficit Disorder as a diagnostic category in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (Fourth Edition) developed by the American Psychiatric Association. Family members or other persons significant in the client's life are encouraged to participate in the evaluation process whenever possible.
